Han Yu Liou, MD, is a pediatrician in Gary, IN, serving a diverse community with many first-generation immigrant families. Limited access to psychiatrists who accept Medicaid or speak families’ preferred languages can leave children waiting for care, and she looks forward to taking the PPP and strengthening her ability to manage more complex mental health needs. Throughout her career, Dr. Liou has supported families navigating trauma, self-harm, immigration, and cultural stigma by building trust, involving family members, and tailoring care to each family’s circumstances.
